Like other Christians, the Corrales Seventh-day
Adventist members and friends assemble weekly to praise and worship
God. We praise God for his mercies exhibited through His Son,
Jesus Christ, without whom we would have no hope beyond death and
praise Him for His Holy Word, the Bible, without which we would not
know Jesus or the Father. We praise God for the Holy Spirit
which has led us to acknowledge Him as our Lord and Master. We also
praise God that for another week He has protected us and brought us
again for another opportunity to worship in the name of Jesus.
Our worship service is a mixture of
thanksgiving, worship, prayer, and music. We also have a
weekly children's story and a collection of tithes and
offerings. A variety of church members and visitors
participate in the weekly service. It is an organized
service, directed by a printed bulletin. While all of these
elements are important to the service, the worship service itself
focuses on the reading and preaching of the Holy Bible.
It is through the reading and preaching of the Bible that God
can speak to us individually, as well as corporately, and we can
respond to His leading.
At least four times a year we gather to celebrate a
communion service with the eating of 1"Christ's body"
and drinking His "blood." Being Christians we try our best to
follow the example of Jesus and, thus, along with drinking and
eating communion we also follow the example of Jesus (John 13) and
wash feet before the meal. We pair off into three groups,
men, women, and couples. Each pair washes each other's feet
before taking part in the communion service. As Jesus said,
"For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did
to you" (John 13:15).
Members are always on the lookout for first-time visitor to
assist them with the communion service, especially the foot washing
service.
At the beginning of this year Pastor David Merling, Ph.D.
began a two-year long series on the life of Jesus, based on the
Gospel of Luke. He has published his titles and texts for 2008, so
members and visitors can read the gospel stories in preparation for
the weekly messages here.
Please plan to visit our services. You and we will be
blessed by your attendance.
1 The use of "body" and "blood" are figurative terms,
meaning that we believe there is only one Jesus and to use terms
like body and blood mean that they represent His sacrifice for
us. In our communion service we use natural, nonalcoholic
grape juice.
